Larry Caveney is a contemporary painter, sculptor, and performance artist. In his work, he engages conceptions of visual, and social recognition, using pop iconography and other familiar imagery. His expressive applications of acrylic paint on un-stretched canvas capture his various personalities in a moment of gesticulation. His painterly portraits echo Francis Bacon’s transmogrified faces with a distinctive kind of raw, parabolic, branding. Caveney’s painting and performance, both require an immediacy from the viewer, which opens the experience of the work into a relational space. In this expanse, he hopes to circumvent that potentially isolating space, that the world can sometimes represent.
Larry Caveney graduated with an M.F.A from Vermont College, Montpelier, VT and is in private collections both nationally and internationally. He is also the founder of 4141 Garage Gallery, exhibiting hundreds of artists from all over San Diego. Larry is a third year alumni of Hotels/Motels (Unofficial Art Fair). |
