Parking
The Lafayette hotel $18 (all day): includes street level and underground parking on Mississippi Street, and there is another lot on Louisiana Street. There is also metered and residential parking on the both the South and North side of El Cajon Blvd.
We also have additional parking at the New Vision Christian Fellowship, 4353 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92103 (Access to parking is on Meade Ave). They have generously opened their parking lot for this event and assume no liability. The lot is a few blocks away, but we will have a shuttle for guests back and fourth to the hotel.
If the lot is full, there is plenty of public street parking in the immediate area.

Unloading & Loading: The front driveway is where you can temporarily park to check in, and unload. Everything can be placed to the left of the entrance doors (you'll see a TV) inside the hotel, just before the lobby. We should have volunteers available to help unload and watch your work, but it is also advised to have friends as well. Once your vehicle is unloaded and you're all checked-in, park your car, before you move things to your room. We want to keep the driveway area clear for other artists and hotel guests. Depending on the location of your room, there is also an exit door on the Mississippi St. side, that can be used to bring things in and out of the hotel. Keep in mind there are two levels of stairs at this exit area. During the fair these doors are to remain closed.
Apply
We will be using COMMAND STRIP ONLY for hanging art on walls (important note: other brands damage walls).
The following are the suggested types to purchase. We may have extra materials available for use.
Heavy duty, double sided tape and hooks, that holds up to 16 lbs. Heavier pieces should be wired, and you can use both the heavy duty hook and tape on the edges to increase the capacity.
Nails, screws, and the like are not permitted for use in the rooms. However, framed prints are in the rooms and can be taken  down (Carefully!!!!) to use the existing nails during the event. They must be put back up prior to check-out.
(The rooms must be left in standard stay condition)
• We are using 3M/Command brand (only) damage free hanging materials for work hung on walls.
• QuakeHOLD museum putty may also be used for securing work. (These materials are much cheaper if purchased in bulk online.)
• Furniture must remain in your hotel room, but can be temporarily repositioned.
• No glitter, or other materials that cannot be removed upon check-out.

Additional Hotel Requirements
• No smoking
• Avoid RED anything! If offering wine use white, or anything that doesn't stain carpets.
• If offering any alcohol ID anyone that may not be 21 and up.
• Event ends @ 10pm. All rooms must close their doors and keep the noise level to a minimum (ESPECIALLY FRIDAY NIGHT!).

Art Signage
Due to the nature of this type of temporary exhibition we cannot apply vinyl lettering to the walls directly. If this is important to your exhibit, you would be responsible for your own temporary signage that can be removed without damage to the paint on the
walls. Alternatively, artists will include either a price list, and/or artist page.

Suggested Materials:
• Power strips & cords
• Wire & Fishing line for hanging and suspension
• White painters & electrical tape
• Additional lighting: areas of the room can be low light especially in the evening
• S-hooks and clip hangers for closets and shower rod (great for hanging loose drawings and other type of light works)
• Levels for hanging
• Clip hangers: the closets already have them but you might need more.

Curating Your Room

Picture
In the past, many of the Hotels/Motels artists really got creative with their presentations and installations.
Here are some examples!
(See Pictures of both sized rooms below)

Every room has a framed print on the wall that is wired and hung on a nail/screw. This is easily removed and can be used for a larger, heavier, work. Please carefully place with glass upright under the bed, and hang it back in place prior to exit.
Bring extra lighting: lamps, portable track lights, clamp lights
S-Hooks: Some of the rooms (mostly Queens), have an area around the ceiling to hook onto. Large S-hooks or something of the kind could be used to suspend work.
Use the furniture in the room for display: All rooms have a dresser drawers and night stand. You could use the drawers to show small objects and loose drawings.
Closets (low lighting): A great area to show loose, unframed, 2-d work. They all include about 4-6 hangers with clips. It is suggested to bring more. You could also bring your own clothing rack and display much more in this way.
• Bring Extra Power Strips if you will be running a lot of power.
• TV's: Take advantage of the large (32-40") TV in your room. They all have an easy HDMI connection on the side, and all you need is a DVD player or laptop. If you don't do video work, you could use this to show your website, info and slide show of additional works available. This is a great way to get viewers to hang out and explore even further. You will also not be able to talk to everyone at once, so this is a great tool to answer their questions if you're occupied.
• Bathrooms: Take advantage of your white walled bathroom space! Especially, the large ones in the Manor Kings. Use the bars for the shower curtain and towels to hang work. You could also have printed towels, soaps, and other art bathroom products on view and for sale.
• Window Curtains: Each room includes a large curtain rod with curtains over the windows. This can be used with S-hooks to suspend work, or even as a large projection screen. Just clip a large white sheet and project your video or image. Keep in mind this will effect your lighting.
• Doors: Use all of the doors as narrow walls. Have them all open, or partially open, and you can use both sides. You can also lean work against the doors and bring your own.
• The Floors: There's no shame in leaning larger works on the floor to a wall or piece of furniture. You can also do this with extremely large works just outside your room door. Just keep in mind there will be a lot of foot traffic and we can't mount on hallway walls, even with Command strips.
• Beds: You could print or paint your own bed covers, create your own installation with a billion stuffed animals, or even have something on or projected on to the ceiling for viewers to observe while lying on the bed. This all depends on the level of intimacy you want to engage...
• Desk: Just another pedestal of sorts, or an area with artifacts of something really really personal and interesting that happened. Your thoughts?
• Cover the furniture with materials (bed covers) and use it as a base for your presentation.
• Bring Floor and table easels and fold-up tables
• Large white bases, such as doors to cover the walls and install work, or to be placed on the mattress as a base.
