In the near future this page will be the launching point for a comprehensive and efficient reference data base. This will include, resources for artists, art students, art educators, and art organizations.
The Directory will include the following reference links and more: call for artists, art grants, art scholarships, artist residencies, fellowships, jobs, art schools and programs, college galleries, and other various art educational resources. We will also include everything from California based museums, galleries, art centers, to smaller non-profits, and art services. Currently, with a Bay Area emphasis, in the long term this will extend throughout California. This page will also include very specific national and international resources.
We've done a great deal of research to create a specialized data base that will provide much needed mobility for art students, and important references for artists and art professionals. We hope to begin publishing soon!

Ongoing Opportunities & Rolling Deadlines
• The Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant (No Fees)
Deadline: Rolling
Eligibility: International
Provides interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical need. 
Awardees typically receive $5,000, up to $15,000.

• The California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) Artist Directory > Join as an Artist or Organization
State Parks invites California based artists that are interested in creating public art in California State and/or local parks to join the Arts in California Parks directory. The directory is a resource available to all State and local California Parks staff, as well as the general public, to be used to search for artists based on location, art medium, or other considerations, in order to explore opportunities for collaboration.
Artists working in a variety of mediums, styles, and techniques, as well as artists from diverse abilities, backgrounds, and cultures, and with a range of experiences, creative visions, aesthetics, and approaches are encouraged to join the directory.

• Center for Cultural Innovation Quick Grant – for artists and arts organizations' financial resilience through professional development support. The Quick Grant program awards up to $600 to California artists, creatives, cultural practitioners, cultural producers, and San Francisco/San Jose nonprofit arts administrators to participate in professional development activities that build administrative capacity, hone business skills, and strengthen the financial resilience of the grantee’s practice, area of cultural production, or arts organization.

• Latitude For Art Artist Residency in Echo Park, Los Angeles (No Fees)

Eligibility: National
14 days or less (to be decided upon in advance) for solo or a couple (tight quarters) at no cost to the artist. Latitude For Art operates a solo artist residency within an existing 1920’s apartment building with lush gardens and grand view over Echo Park, Los Angeles.  The other apartments are occupied by a long term creative community in 5 apartments. 

• National Endowment for the Arts Grants for Arts Projects and Challenge America

• Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

Eligibility: International
The foundation welcomes applications from painters, sculptors and artists who work on paper, including printmakers. 
Grants are intended for one year and range up to $50,000. The artist’s circumstances determine the size of the grant, and professional exhibition history will be considered.

Within the framework of the centre’s artist-in-residence programme, international symposia are organised each year in different artistic disciplines, including painting, printmaking, textile art, ceramics, photography and sculpture. Artists from different parts of the world come to Daugavpils for these symposia. As stipulated in regulations, each participant donates to the Rothko Museum at least two works created during the symposium, thereby adding to the museum’s art collection and gaining the right to list the Rothko Museum in their biography as a place that holds some of their work.

• Torrance Art Museum (TAM) accepts proposals for Projects and “GROUP” exhibitions
Eligibility: International
Individual artists are welcome to share their work and/or practice through an online portfolio, website, or in cases of video/film work, links to a reel or selections of their works. Physical portfolio submissions are also accepted by mail only. All submissions will be accepted for consideration and review for potential inclusion in future programming. TAM is located in Southern California, in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.
TAM does not accept proposals to host exhibitions for juried shows, non-art special interest groups, amateur artists or non-curated/ non-themed exhibitions.

• Artful Bench Program RFP - Brisbane (No Fees)

The Public Art Advisory Committee, in collaboration with the Brisbane City Council, seeks to establish an artfully designed bench program that combines public seating with site-specific artwork, enhancing both the functional and aesthetic value of public spaces throughout the community. Such a program would provide opportunities for local, regional, and national artists, increase civic engagement, complement the City’s age-friendly goals, and contribute to a more vibrant and welcoming streetscape.

• Rothko Museum’s Artist-in-Residency for the 2026 Latgale Graphic Art Symposium 02/23 - 03/08  (No Fees)

Location: Latvija
This is one of four major international events that will bring together artists, ideas, and cultures, continuing the museum’s mission to foster artistic dialogue beyond borders in the birthplace of Mark Rothko. The selection will be competition-based, with the jury assessing submitted materials (application form, CV, and visuals).
The Latgale Graphic Art Symposium is the largest event of its kind in the Latgale region, distinguished by its strong international pull. Organised in partnership with SIVIA, it strengthens the presence of printmaking in the region and places Latgale firmly on the world’s cultural map as a space rich in artistic traditions and alive with contemporary impulses.

• San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza Temporary Sculpture RFP 
Deadline: 01/12/2026
Eligibility: open to professional, practicing artists who reside in the United States or have representation from a US-based gallery willing to enter into an Artwork Loan Agreement with the Arts Commission on the artist’s behalf. 
The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) invites artists and artist teams residing in the United States to submit proposals for the temporary display of an existing freestanding sculpture, or series of sculptures, of prominent scale in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza, located in front of City Hall. The selected sculpture should embody inclusive histories, invite community dialogue, and enrich the collective understanding of civic memory and belonging. It should also demonstrate a strong visual presence that responds to the scale and formality of Civic Center Plaza.
Project costs, including loan fee, packing, round-trip transportation, insurance, engineering, installation, de-installation, and maintenance for the duration of the display, will be determined based on the specific requirements of the selected artwork.

• Startup Art Fair San Francisco 2026 at the Kinney Hotel April 17-19

Designed for independent artists who want to connect directly with collectors, curators, and peers. 
Each Startup Art Fair is carefully curated by a rotating jury of respected artists, curators, and art professionals. 

• “Turning Points” Exhibition at Cabrillo gallery in partnership with the Center for Photographic Art's PhotoCarmel 2026

Juror: Ann Jastrab, Executive Director of Center for Photographic Art in Carmel
Visions of what a turning point can be. All photographic capture and printing processes are eligible.
Turning Points will be presented at Cabrillo gallery in partnership with the Center for Photographic Art's PhotoCarmel 2026, in which galleries, museums, photography groups and other venues across the Central Coast of California collaborate in the celebration of photography. The events, openings, exhibitions, etc. together foster appreciation and understanding of photography as an art form and its place in today’s culture. Turning Points will be listed in the directory of participants as well as on a map of the venues and locations. 

• 2026 Left Coast Annual Juried Exhibition at the Sanchez Art Center – Pacifica
Deadline: 01/27/26
Submission Fee: $15
- Eligibility: Open to artists (18 years and older) in California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii, working in all fine art visual mediums. 
2 Exhibition Awards ($250 plus an exhibition in 2027); 
2 Merit Awards ($250)
There is no theme, with the juror establishing the vision for the exhibition. The exhibition is hung in the Main and West Galleries at Sanchez Art Center.  An online virtual exhibition is also created. 
Juried by Scott A. Shields, Ph.D., is the Ted and Melza Barr Chief Curator and Associate Director at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento. 

• Big Bend 2026 Artists-In-Residence – Texas (No Fees)

- Eligibility: National
- The park will provide free housing, advertise the artist and their public outreach program, and support the artist during their stay.
- Artists can apply for either 2 or 4 week sessions with the program running May, June, July.
The Big Bend National Park Artist in Residence Program (AiR) is open to all art mediums including but not limited to painters, sculptors, photographers, writers, poets, musicians, composers, dancers, etc., Being in a national park, artists must respect park rules such as leave no trace and wilderness zone restrictions.
While most of the artists time will be devoted to their own art practice, they will be required to lead 1 public outreach program. This will be held in the Panther Junction Community Room and should be a presentation, demo, or workshop.

• HOSPITAL OF EMOTIONS Exhibition in an abandoned Los Angeles Hospital

Show Dates: Mid-April 2026  (approximately two and a half weeks of work inside the hospital)
Hospital of Emotions is a large-scale immersive exhibition in an LA abandoned hospital that transforms 100 rooms into a vibrant, imaginative journey through human emotions. Presented by the Curatorial and Creative Team of HOUSE OF ART AND DREAMS, in collaboration with ROYVA.

The 2026 show welcomes creators working in any medium painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, ceramics, textiles, and everything in between.

• Rothko Museum’s Artist-in-Residency for the 2026 Ceramic Laboratory Symposium 04/26 - 05/16  (No Fees)

This is one of four major international events that will bring together artists, ideas, and cultures, continuing the museum’s mission to foster artistic dialogue beyond borders in the birthplace of Mark Rothko. The selection will be competition-based, with the jury assessing submitted materials (application form, CV, and visuals).
The Ceramic Laboratory Symposium, organized by the Rothko Museum in partnership with the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics, offers a dynamic and experimental platform for creative exploration. Each year brings leading artists from across the world, who spend nearly three weeks in Daugavpils creating in a range of firing techniques – from electric kilns and wood firing to more innovative, experimental methods.

• Beverly Hills Art Show -May 16 & 17, 2026

Eligibility: National
The City of Beverly Hills warmly welcomes fine artists to apply to the Beverly Hills Art Show.  The Beverly Hills Art Show attracts an estimated 40,000 patrons during the third weekends of May and October.  This outdoor exhibit takes place on the grassy terrain of the historic Beverly Gardens Park along Santa Monica Boulevard.

• Made In California (MICA) Annual Exhibition at brea GALLERY 
- Deadline: 02/06/2026
- Entries and Fees: $10 per entry during the month of October 2025; $20 per entry beginning November 1st through the close of the call
Solo Show: $80 per submission. There is no limit to the number of entries that an artist may submit.
- Eligibility: Open to all living artists ages 18 and up, residing in California. 
- Location: Brea, CA (SoCal)
- Awards: First Place: $750, Second Place: $500, Third Place: $250, Director’s Choice: $200, Juror’s Choice: $200, Staff Picks: $150 each, Popular Choice: $100. Additional awards to be announced.
This annual juried exhibit showcases artwork from all over the state of California. MICA strives to highlight artists in all stages of their careers and offers them a chance to compete for a number of awards, including the coveted solo show opportunity. This regional show features artwork from an extensive variety of mediums and explores creative movements happening in California. There is no restrictions/requirements around theme/subject matter.

• New Salem Museum & Academy of Fine Art International Painting Competition

Prizes: $35,000 Grand Prize Acquisition Award, $2,500 Director’s Choice, $2,500 People’s Choice
Focusing on contemporary realism in painting, this yearly competition is intended to serve as a beacon for the highest standards in representational art, motivating the next generation of artists to reach for ever higher quality and impact in their work. All subject matter is welcome - figurative, landscape, still life, etc., and all painting mediums are welcome - oil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, tempera, etc. The finalists' paintings will be showcased in a three month long exhibition at the New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art May 13th – August 16th, 2026

The Valdis Bušs Plein Air has evolved from a regional collaboration between the Rothko Museum in Daugavpils and the Balvi Municipality. Held in Viļaka – a picturesque small town in eastern Latvia – the plein air honours Latvian landscape master Valdis Bušs in his native region, positioning Viļaka as an appealing international residency location marked by quality, professionalism, and sustainable growth.

Eligibility: National
La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, California, showcases figurative and narrative paintings and unusual sculptures.
Size Limitations: Wall hanging artwork must not exceed 20 inches on the longest dimension. Sculpture work cannot exceed 20 inches in width or depth. Smaller is better!
Shipping: Artists outside of Los Angeles are responsible for the cost of shipping their work to and from the gallery, including all taxes and duties for international artists.

• Rothko Museum’s Artist-in-Residency for the MARK ROTHKO 2026 International Painting Symposium 09/18 - 10/03  (No Fees)

Location: Latvija
This is one of four major international events that will bring together artists, ideas, and cultures, continuing the museum’s mission to foster artistic dialogue beyond borders in the birthplace of Mark Rothko. The Mark Rothko Painting Symposium pays tribute to the legendary founder of abstract expressionism in his birthplace, Daugavpils. Open to Latvian and international artists alike, it welcomes those who feel a connection to Rothko’s painterly language and philosophical depth.
