In the near future this page will be the launching point for a comprehensive and efficient reference data base. This will include, resources for artists, art students, art educators, and art organizations.
The Directory will include the following reference links and more: call for artists, art grants, art scholarships, artist residencies, fellowships, jobs, art schools and programs, college galleries, and other various art educational resources. We will also include everything from California based museums, galleries, art centers, to smaller non-profits, and art services. Currently, with a Bay Area emphasis, in the long term this will extend throughout California. This page will also include very specific national and international resources.
We've done a great deal of research to create a specialized data base that will provide much needed mobility for art students, and important references for artists and art professionals. We hope to begin publishing soon!

Ongoing Opportunities & Rolling Deadlines
• The Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant (No Fees)
Deadline: Rolling
Eligibility: International
Provides interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical need. 
Awardees typically receive $5,000, up to $15,000.

• The California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) Artist Directory > Join as an Artist or Organization
State Parks invites California based artists that are interested in creating public art in California State and/or local parks to join the Arts in California Parks directory. The directory is a resource available to all State and local California Parks staff, as well as the general public, to be used to search for artists based on location, art medium, or other considerations, in order to explore opportunities for collaboration.
Artists working in a variety of mediums, styles, and techniques, as well as artists from diverse abilities, backgrounds, and cultures, and with a range of experiences, creative visions, aesthetics, and approaches are encouraged to join the directory.

• Center for Cultural Innovation Quick Grant – for artists and arts organizations' financial resilience through professional development support. The Quick Grant program awards up to $600 to California artists, creatives, cultural practitioners, cultural producers, and San Francisco/San Jose nonprofit arts administrators to participate in professional development activities that build administrative capacity, hone business skills, and strengthen the financial resilience of the grantee’s practice, area of cultural production, or arts organization.

• Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

Eligibility: International
The foundation welcomes applications from painters, sculptors and artists who work on paper, including printmakers. 
Grants are intended for one year and range up to $50,000. The artist’s circumstances determine the size of the grant, and professional exhibition history will be considered.

Within the framework of the centre’s artist-in-residence programme, international symposia are organised each year in different artistic disciplines, including painting, printmaking, textile art, ceramics, photography and sculpture. Artists from different parts of the world come to Daugavpils for these symposia. As stipulated in regulations, each participant donates to the Rothko Museum at least two works created during the symposium, thereby adding to the museum’s art collection and gaining the right to list the Rothko Museum in their biography as a place that holds some of their work.

• Torrance Art Museum (TAM) accepts proposals for Projects and “GROUP” exhibitions
Eligibility: International
Individual artists are welcome to share their work and/or practice through an online portfolio, website, or in cases of video/film work, links to a reel or selections of their works. Physical portfolio submissions are also accepted by mail only. All submissions will be accepted for consideration and review for potential inclusion in future programming. TAM is located in Southern California, in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.
TAM does not accept proposals to host exhibitions for juried shows, non-art special interest groups, amateur artists or non-curated/ non-themed exhibitions.



November Deadlines
• Startup Art Fair LA 2026 at the Kinney Hotel

Startup LA takes place concurrently with Frieze LA, Post Fair, and Felix Art Fairs nearby. Participating artists will have a fantastic opportunity to expose new work to a myriad of collectors, curators, gallery owners, art consultants, and writers who will be coming to the city for a weekend of contemporary art. It’s a rolling application process through November. Once accepted, you will immediatley be able to select the room of your choice, so APPLY EARLY to get your preferred spot!

• The Other Art Fair Los Angeles 2026 (No Application Fees)

Now accepting applications for the 15th edition of The Other Art Fair Los Angeles, returning for LA Art Week –  February 26th – March 1st, 2026. The Fair package includes a booth at a 4-day in-person event, pre-fair operations, curation, and marketing workshops, booth curation feedback, and more. Booths start at 16 linear feet for $2,270. 

• "Sightlines: Art in Public View" 12th Annual Los Angeles Billboard Art Exhibition

The Billboard Creative (TBC) is now accepting submissions for our annual exhibition, transforming Los Angeles into an open-air gallery for four consecutive weeks. This is your chance to have your work displayed on a billboard in LA for one month, reaching millions of people in one of the world’s most vibrant art cities. Viewers are guided through the show via a smartphone map, which provides directions for visiting board locations as well as bios and links to each artist's personal web page. Participating artists have received widespread media coverage in outlets including the Huffington Post, HAF, Vice, and Site Specific, among other publications. 

• We Don’t Need This Fascist Groove Thang 2025 Exhibition & Catalog

Entry Fee: $25.00 
Eligibility: International
Location: Center on Contemporary Art Seattle, WA
Juror: Joseph DeLappe
Prizes: $500 first prize, $250 second prize, and $150 3rd prize will be awarded by the juror, as well as up to two $50 “honorable mentions” featured on CoCA’s website and become part of the ongoing 45-year archive (Prize monies in USD). A catalog of the show will feature artists’ statements, biographies, and images, as well as a short introductory essay by the juror. 
We Don’t Need This Fascist Groove Thang is a call for artworks across all media that respond to our current moment of intersecting crises. We are seeking works that confront, question, and resist the politics of authoritarianism, nationalism, and hate, while also proposing creative strategies for care, solidarity, survival, and beauty.
We welcome submissions in any form—visual art, performance, games, writing, film, sound, installation, digital media, and hybrid practices. This exhibition is rooted in the belief that creativity is both a tool of resistance and a catalyst for change. Let’s come together to insist that another world is possible—and that we don’t need this fascist groove thang!

• The Hopper Prize – Six artist grants of $4,500 and $1,000, totaling $13,000

This open call provides a direct path to get your work in front of an international community of curators, artists, gallerists, and arts administrators. Additional exposure is available via a 30-artist shortlist, online journal, and Instagram currently reaching over 150k.

• UCLA Film & Television Archive Artist in Residence (No Fees)
Deadline: 11/14/2025
Eligibility: National
Honorarium: $10,750
The UCLA Film & Television Archive will host an emerging artist for two weeks to activate the Archive’s collection in their artistic practice. The program provides the artist with time, support, and access to select Archive collections. In the selection process, the advisory committee will prioritize proposals that are responsive to today’s cultural context. The candidate is not required to have an academic background and can work in the visual arts, archiving, filmmaking and time-based media.

• Art of Everyday (A global, multi-disciplinary art competition by Vanguard Culture + Aarize)

• May Bonfils Stanton Theatre at Loretto Heights Public Art Project RFQ (No Fees)

Budget: $550,000
Denver Public Art seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create an original suspended artwork for the lobby of the May Bonfils Stanton Theatre at Loretto Heights in Denver, Colorado. The public artwork for the May Bonfils Stanton Theatre should be unique, inviting, and echo the cultural and architectural heritage of the Loretto Heights campus, while also addressing the needs and ambitions of the local community. 

• “Worn” in the Learning Center Gallery at the Pence Gallery’s new onsite exhibit (No Fees)
Deadline: 12/01/2025
Eligibility: California artists ages 18 and up
Location: Davis, CA
Exhibition Dates: January 9 – February 8, 2026
Guidelines: Artworks can be 2D or 3D and should be limited to 30″ maximum in any direction when framed and weigh no more than 25 pounds. The Pence Gallery invites artists to submit artwork that captures the connection between clothing and one’s personal identity and/or culture. Artists can explore this open-ended theme through various media and subject matter. 

• Innovate Grant awards (2) $1,800.00, to one Visual Artist and one Photographer
Deadline: 12/11/2025

Eligibility: International
Innovate Grant supports artists and photographers through quarterly grants. In addition to the two $1,800 awards, (12) honorable mentions (6 in art and 6 in photo), will be featured on our website and join a growing community of vibrant and talented artists. Innovate Grant’s commitment extends beyond the grant cycle by promoting the work of selected winners and honorable mentions into the future.

• Art for Everyone Exhibition at Rena Charles Gallery – NorCal (No Fees)

- Eligibility: National (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber art, digital, and mixed media)
- Location: Healdsburg, CA
- Size Limit: Max total dimension not to exceed 100 square inches (example, 10"x10" 2D, or equivalent volume for 3D).

Open to artists from all walks of life, this exhibition provides an opportunity to show original artwork in a professional fine art gallery setting. 

• The fifth season of the International Poetry Film Festival at Beyond Baroque

The Poetry Film Festival is international and for shorts -- under 15 Minutes --Screening Official Selections in Los Angeles, California, near Venice Beach. The festival will welcome only poem-based short films in Narrative, Animation, Documentary and Experimental.

• Rothko Museum’s Artist-in-Residency for the 2026 Latgale Graphic Art Symposium 02/23 - 03/08  (No Fees)

This is one of four major international events that will bring together artists, ideas, and cultures, continuing the museum’s mission to foster artistic dialogue beyond borders in the birthplace of Mark Rothko. The selection will be competition-based, with the jury assessing submitted materials (application form, CV, and visuals).
The Latgale Graphic Art Symposium is the largest event of its kind in the Latgale region, distinguished by its strong international pull. Organised in partnership with SIVIA, it strengthens the presence of printmaking in the region and places Latgale firmly on the world’s cultural map as a space rich in artistic traditions and alive with contemporary impulses.

• San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza Temporary Sculpture RFP 
Deadline: 01/12/2026
Eligibility: open to professional, practicing artists who reside in the United States or have representation from a US-based gallery willing to enter into an Artwork Loan Agreement with the Arts Commission on the artist’s behalf. 
The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) invites artists and artist teams residing in the United States to submit proposals for the temporary display of an existing freestanding sculpture, or series of sculptures, of prominent scale in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza, located in front of City Hall. The selected sculpture should embody inclusive histories, invite community dialogue, and enrich the collective understanding of civic memory and belonging. It should also demonstrate a strong visual presence that responds to the scale and formality of Civic Center Plaza.
Project costs, including loan fee, packing, round-trip transportation, insurance, engineering, installation, de-installation, and maintenance for the duration of the display, will be determined based on the specific requirements of the selected artwork.

• Rothko Museum’s Artist-in-Residency for the 2026 Ceramic Laboratory Symposium 04/26 - 05/16  (No Fees)

Location: Latvija
This is one of four major international events that will bring together artists, ideas, and cultures, continuing the museum’s mission to foster artistic dialogue beyond borders in the birthplace of Mark Rothko. The selection will be competition-based, with the jury assessing submitted materials (application form, CV, and visuals).
The Ceramic Laboratory Symposium, organized by the Rothko Museum in partnership with the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics, offers a dynamic and experimental platform for creative exploration. Each year brings leading artists from across the world, who spend nearly three weeks in Daugavpils creating in a range of firing techniques – from electric kilns and wood firing to more innovative, experimental methods.

February Deadlines
• Made In California (MICA) Annual Exhibition at brea GALLERY 
- Deadline: 02/06/2026
- Entries and Fees: $10 per entry during the month of October 2025; $20 per entry beginning November 1st through the close of the call
Solo Show: $80 per submission. There is no limit to the number of entries that an artist may submit.
- Eligibility: Open to all living artists ages 18 and up, residing in California. 
- Location: Brea, CA (SoCal)
- Awards: First Place: $750, Second Place: $500, Third Place: $250, Director’s Choice: $200, Juror’s Choice: $200, Staff Picks: $150 each, Popular Choice: $100. Additional awards to be announced.
This annual juried exhibit showcases artwork from all over the state of California. MICA strives to highlight artists in all stages of their careers and offers them a chance to compete for a number of awards, including the coveted solo show opportunity. This regional show features artwork from an extensive variety of mediums and explores creative movements happening in California. There is no restrictions/requirements around theme/subject matter.

• New Salem Museum & Academy of Fine Art International Painting Competition 
Deadline: 02/15/2026
Entry Fee: $50 (1), $90 (2), $125 (3), $150 (4), $25 each additional entry
Eligibility: International
Location: MA
Prizes: $35,000 Grand Prize Acquisition Award, $2,500 Director’s Choice, $2,500 People’s Choice
Focusing on contemporary realism in painting, this yearly competition is intended to serve as a beacon for the highest standards in representational art, motivating the next generation of artists to reach for ever higher quality and impact in their work. All subject matter is welcome - figurative, landscape, still life, etc., and all painting mediums are welcome - oil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, tempera, etc. The finalists' paintings will be showcased in a three month long exhibition at the New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art May 13th – August 16th, 2026


April Deadlines
• Rothko Museum’s Artist-in-Residency for the 2026 Valdis Bušs Plein Air 07/20 - 07/30  (No Fees)

This is one of four major international events that will bring together artists, ideas, and cultures, continuing the museum’s mission to foster artistic dialogue beyond borders in the birthplace of Mark Rothko. The selection will be competition-based, with the jury assessing submitted materials (application form, CV, and visuals).
The Valdis Bušs Plein Air has evolved from a regional collaboration between the Rothko Museum in Daugavpils and the Balvi Municipality. Held in Viļaka – a picturesque small town in eastern Latvia – the plein air honours Latvian landscape master Valdis Bušs in his native region, positioning Viļaka as an appealing international residency location marked by quality, professionalism, and sustainable growth.

The Mark Rothko Painting Symposium pays tribute to the legendary founder of abstract expressionism in his birthplace, Daugavpils. Open to Latvian and international artists alike, it welcomes those who feel a connection to Rothko’s painterly language and philosophical depth.
